Adirondack Food and Beverage News: Adirondack Winery Wins Medals; Barkeater Chocolates at NJ Expo

Here is some noteworthy food and beverage news to recently come out of the Adirondacks.

Adirondack Winery Receives Four Silver Medals, One Bronze

Four wines from the Adirondack Winery were recently awarded silver medals at various International Wine Competitions.

Their Pinot Noir was awarded a silver medal at the 2011 International Pinot Noir Shootout, which is held every year in Chicago. It is a three-month long competitive wine tasting, where a panel of about 40 wine professionals taste approximately 300 different Pinot Noirs from around the world.

 Adirondack Winery's Fireworks Red Merlot, Blue Twilight (blueberry shiraz, and one of my favorites), and Strawsling (strawberry reisling) all took home silver medals at the 23rd annual Florida State Fair International Wine Competition, which was held in February.  In addition, the winery's Chardonnay took home a bronze medal.

The wine's were competing alongside 1,000 other wines submitted by wineries from around the world.

"Each year, we enter a few of our wines in a small handful of wine competitions, so we are very pleased to earn four Silver Medals and one Bronze for our wines, when such steep competition is involved," said Adirondack Winery President, Sasha Pardy.

With these latest medal wins, 19 of Adirondack Winery’s wines have earned 30 medals to date.

Barkeater Chocolates at Chocolate World Expo in New Jersey

If you live in the New York City area or New Jersey and are craving a taste of the Adirondacks, literally, stop by Sunday's Chocolate World Expo at the Meadowlands Expo Center, where North Creek's own Barkeater Chocolates will be.

I recently tried their several of their chocolate creations (more on that later) and they were amazing! Sweet, but not over powering.

The expo runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and features about 60 regional companies, as well as a few international ones. It's a great way to find new products for your store, Easter and Mother's, or just have a fun day out. (Now, all they have to do is add glasses of champagne to the tasting and we're sold)
